Mining

Mining was one of Saxony's most important economic sectors for many centuries. Particularly during the Second Mountain Scream, silver mining helped the Electorate of Saxony to achieve great wealth and ensured the rapid settlement of the Ore Mountains. Archaeological evidence of mining sites that are still inhabited or have fallen into disuse, old deposits, potholes and old tunnels for tin, silver and non-ferrous metal mining can be found today. In the recent past, the mining of energy resources such as lignite and uranium should be mentioned.
