Depot finds
So-called depots can be found from prehistoric times to the present day. These are deposits of several objects that are not associated with the settlement or burial system. The motives for these resignations are often unclear. In prehistory, the composition of the finds, the sometimes deliberate destruction of objects and the places where they were deposited, which make later recovery impossible, suggest that they were sacrificed to higher powers. Coin hoards from the Middle Ages and the early modern period are often associated with warlike events, so that they could probably no longer be retrieved by their owners when hidden in times of need.
