Labor, trade & transport

Routes and connections are a basis for trade, exchange and development. Not infrequently, they were also military routes or pilgrimage routes. Old routes and trade routes can be explored not only through historical sources, but also archaeologically. They are often still visible in the landscape as hollow paths or can be detected on aerial photographs as discolorations or in the digital terrain model as linear structures. They often run along traffic routes that are still known today. Anyone who was connected to a road network was also connected to the economy, so to speak.
