Religion
Places of faith can be found throughout Saxony. The earliest site to date is a Slavic sanctuary, which is also documented by historical sources. By the end of the early Middle Ages, however, Christianity was becoming increasingly widespread. Churches and monasteries shaped medieval society with their great spiritual influence and extensive possessions. That is why church buildings and religious artefacts are an important testimony to the living environment, history and architecture of the time. However, Jewish communities have also lived in Saxony since the Middle Ages, as evidenced by architectural structures and finds.
